Albrecht Ritschl

About this video

Runtime: 25 mins

Clive Marsh discusses Albrecht Ritschl, the influence of Ferdinand Christian Baur, his thinking, and the quest for the historical Jesus. Albrecht Ritschl was a German Lutheran theologian. Originally a New Testament scholar he argued for a method of historical criticism that accepts the bible as source of concrete fact and revelation of the work of God. He rejected notions of original sin and understood the death of Jesus as obedience and ethical model, not sacrifice. He viewed repentance and forgiveness as changes in internal orientations towards good and the Kingdom of God.
