The Gospel of Luke: An Introduction

By Paula Gooder in January 2013

About this video

Runtime: 25 mins

Paula Gooder discusses Luke's Gospel, written by and for Gentiles. Despite being a Gentile, Luke's Gospel is rich in Old Testament references, subtler and more nuanced than Matthew’s direct quotes. Two theories explain this: Luke may have been a God-fearer, a Gentile interested in Judaism, or he learned from Paul. Dating Luke's Gospel is challenging but generally placed between 60-90 AD. Uniquely, Luke wrote a two-volume work (Luke-Acts), linking Jesus’ story from Jerusalem to Rome, emphasizing the global spread of Christianity and portraying Jesus as the core message.
