Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a German Protestant theologian. His opposition to Hitler led to his imprisonment and eventual execution. His famous book The Cost of Discipleship warns against 'cheap grace' and through his writing and experience he developed an understanding of Christology as God suffering in and with the world, and urged the church to do likewise.
